Frequently asked questions

A family of free, open-source apps that reimplement the Adobe workflow in pure Rust: PhotoCraft (Photoshop), VectorCraft (Illustrator), EffectCraft (After Effects), PdfCraft (Acrobat), FilmCraft (NLE), LightCraft (non-destructive photo editing), WordCraft (documents), GridCraft (spreadsheets) and CADCraft (CAD).

Yes — MIT/Apache-2.0 open source, no subscription, no paid tier. The apps are free; this guide site charges only for its own tutorials and preset packs to keep the guides sustainable.

No. This is an independent guide site. ArtCraft and the craft app names appear to describe the products; all data about the apps comes from the official site and GitHub READMEs as of 2026-10-13.

Only official sources: getartcraft.com for desktop and web builds, and GitHub Releases under storytold for the same builds plus Linux/FreeBSD packages. Each app page here has a platform guide.

PhotoCraft opens real PSD/PSB plus TIFF/PNG/JPEG/WebP/OpenEXR; VectorCraft imports SVG/PDF including PDF-compatible .ai; EffectCraft imports/exports Lottie; family-native formats are open JSON. Round-trip is a stated core goal — verify critical files both directions.

Not yet — the family is early alpha and the READMEs say so directly. Ordinary editing and design work: yes. Generative/AI features, some tools, professional pipelines and plugin ecosystems: documented gaps.

1 credit = 1 unlock (one paid tutorial or one preset pack). $9 starter = 3 credits; $19 pro = 9 credits. One-time, held on an anonymous browser token, auto-delivered by PayPal IPN — no subscription, nothing renews.

Every pack is a real, editable file set you can review before use (plain SVG/CSV/JSON/HTML/MD). If a pack is broken (does not open in the stated app), email the address on the About page with your token and it is replaced or refunded.
